ESPRIT HAIR INSTRUCTIONS
Please choose the method that works best for you. Method #1 is the best method for strong hold and consistent curls. IF #1 does not work for you, then try #2. You can use #3 if all else fails. TIMING is the key. Make sure that you have practiced and know EXACTLY how long it takes for you to do your hair. Also, pay attention to how long your hair holds using the method that you choose. The longer the better! Also-it is a good idea for everyone to bring a curling iron to competitions for touch ups.
Method #1-Sponge rollers
1. Wash hair and dry hair. After washing put a styling mousse in hair. When should you wash your hair? That depends on each girl. Some like to roll their hair when its a little bit dirty (at night after washing in morning).Others get better results with freshly washed and dried hair. Please figure out what is best for you.
2. Before rolling each section of hair, put a light styling gel on it. We recommend "Liquid Sculpting Gel" from Sally Beauty. The bottle says : Compare to Sebastian Wet. (Ive never tried Sebastian Wet but it sounds like its the same thing so you could also get that if you prefer) You can put this in a dish or spray bottle to make it easier to use.
3. Use sponge rollers that are on the small size (no bigger than 1.5 in diameter) Dont use anything that says "jumbo"on the package.
4. Start rolling hair starting right above the forehead. Section off hair using pointy (rat tail) end of comb. The hair on the top, middle section of the head should be rolled straight back. You should have a row of curlers going from just above forehead all the way to nape of the neck.
5. Now roll the sides downward. (Some people roll these slightly away from face)
6. Remember: the key to proper rolling is to use a lot of rollers in small sections and to make sure that you use a styling gel before rolling the DRY hair.
7. Sleep on these and take out in the morning.
8. DO your "wall" (see separate instructions on page #3)
9. Spray with "Screaming Hold Schwarzkopf got 2 B glued blasting hairspray" Bright yellow can. You can get it just about anywhere: Osco Walgreens, Target, Etc)
Method #2-HOT ROLLERS
These can sometimes be difficult because there are too many LARGE rollers and not enough rollers in genera in a set. The average head is going to need around 20-40 rollers and most hot roller sets only come with about 20 rollers and many are too big. However, I have seen online some roller sets with just small rollers. Sally Beauty may have them or be able to order them for you. This method can only be done the day of competitions and needs time for the rollers to fully cool before taking out. However, this method can work if you have time in the morning and dont want to sleep on curlers.
1. Wash hair and dry hair. After washing put a styling mousse in hair. When should you wash your hair? That depends on each girl. Some like to roll their hair when its a little bit dirty (at night after washing in morning).Others get better results with freshly washed and dried hair. Please figure out what is best for you.
2. Before rolling each section of hair, apply ISOPLUS HOT HOT HOT (Thermal Curler) from Sally Beauty OR HOT SETS by Redkin. These are setting sprays that work specifically with heat.
3. Start rolling hair starting right above the forehead. Section off hair using pointy (rat tail) end of comb. The hair on the top, middle of the head should be rolled straight back. You should have a row of curlers going from just above forehead all the way to nape of the neck.
4. Now roll the sides. Roll these sections downward or slightly away from the face.
5. Remember: the key to proper rolling is to use a lot of rollers in small sections and to make sure that you use a styling gel (step#2) before rolling the DRY hair.
6. Take out rollers after they have thoroughly cooled
7. Do your wall(see separate instructions on page 3)
8. Spray with "Screaming Hold Schwarzkopf got 2 B glued blasting hairspray" Bright yellow can. You can get it just about anywhere: Osco, Walgreens, Target, Etc)
METHOD # 3-Curling Iron
Many of you used a curling iron on the picture day and your hair looked very good. The problem with the curling iron is that when you are in a hotel room, there are often not enough outlets near mirrors, etc. Also, the curls from a curling iron often dont last as long as the other methods. But if this REALLY works for you, then go for it! Just make sure that you know how long it will take you to curl it WELL.
1. Wash hair and dry hair. After washing put a styling mousse in hair. When should you wash your hair? That depends on each girl. Some like to roll their hair when its a little bit dirty (at night after washing in morning).Others get better results with freshly washed and dried hair. Please figure out what is best for you.
2. Before curling each section of hair, apply ISOPLUS HOT HOT HOT (Thermal Curler) from Sally Beauty OR HOT SETS by Redkin. These are setting sprays that work specifically with heat.
3. Use a curling iron with a 1 inch barrel (or 1 and ¼). Curl small sections of the hair holding the barrel vertically (so curls come out as locks). Get curl to start as close to scalp as possible.
4. Do your wall (see separate instructions below)
5. Spray with "Screaming Hold Schwarzkopf got 2 B glued blasting hairspray" Bright yellow can. You can get it just about anywhere: Osco, Walgreens, Target, Etc)
THE WALL
If you are having trouble with this, there will be help available on competition days.
1. Pull the front section of your hair up and away from your face, "poofing" it up. You should not have any hair covering the front of your ears or ear lobes. A good line of reference is where your ears meet the sides of your face. If you follow this line up, you should poof all this hair from this line to forehead.
2. You will need to use bobby pins to hold the poof or "WALL" in place. Spray with "Screaming Hold Schwarzkopf got 2 B glued blasting hairspray" Bright yellow can. You can get it just about anywhere: Osco, Walgreens, Target, Etc)
3. You will be given your rhinestone barrette to put in after your wall is done. We cannot pass out barrettes beforehand because they get lost.
