God
Travels With Us
a condensed version of the
Children's sermon delivered by John Kendall on Sunday, December
3rd, 2006 at the Granville UCC
Ever felt confused? Like in school, the teacher lectures you on a math problem, but you are still confused and dont know what is going on? Has the same ever happened at home, with your friends, or anywhere else? You know, Pastor Ron is on a mission trip in Biloxi, Mississippi with 14 others from this area. Do you think they are confused? I bet they are, as most of them have no clue of what type of work is needed down there, and what awaits them.
What holiday is coming up? Christmas, yes. In 22 days, Christmas will be here. I bet a lot of people are confused also, as they dont know what to buy for someone, or if Santa would be coming and bringing it.
Advent starts today. As many of you know already, before Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph were together. Then, an angel appeared to them, and said you are going to have a baby. It is Gods baby, who will be his special leader, and he will teach people about Gods love. Stories have been told about the love and promise of God, but have his baby? I bet you that there was a lot of confusion there, as they also found out by this angel that they had to move to a far away place in order to have the baby.
How many of you read the ending before reading the entire book? I am sure that all of us have a time or two. Well, this book we are in now, called life, we dont know what is going to happen next.
I have a story for you. Whenever they heard about the troubles in the land, or whenever they were scared and lonely, the people would remind each other of Gods wonderful promises. Gods promise moved through the land and it helped the people not to be afraid. Now they knew for sure, that God was always with them.
We may not know the next road in life, and this confuses us, but always know and always remember this: God travels with us, like he did all those years ago with Mary and Joseph. Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we come confused, as we dont know what is going to happen next. Be with us, and be near us, to foil away the feeling of confusion in our lives. We pray in Jesus name, Amen.
